Connecting Community Through Our Shared History
The 72-year struggle for women’s suffrage demanded a great deal from women emotionally, politically and physically. English Professor Susan Trollinger from the University of Dayton looks at: what it was like to be a woman in the 19th century with little power to change her circumstances because she lacked access to the ballot box; how women became convinced to take on that struggle in the 1840s; and how they finally won it through rhetorical strategies that were radical for the time.
Trollinger has published in the areas of classical rhetoric, feminist rhetoric, visual rhetoric and American Protestant fundamentalism and evangelicalism.
